Why Manufacturers Like Modern Line Furniture Require Minimum Orders — and How You Benefit
At Modern Line Furniture, we often receive inquiries from clients asking to place small, custom orders below our minimum purchase requirement of $7,000. While we always strive to accommodate where we can, there’s a strategic reason behind this policy — and it benefits you as much as it benefits us.
The True Cost of Custom Manufacturing
As a Made in USA commercial furniture manufacturer, our process is built around efficiency, quality, and scale. Whether you’re ordering a single custom sofa or a full installation, our team must go through detailed steps: designing templates, building prototypes, performing revisions, finalizing materials, and testing for fire codes, weight capacity, and durability.
This process is labor-intensive. When we produce at scale, the cost per unit becomes much more economical. That’s why ordering in larger quantities—as part of our Commercial Sales Only, $7,000 minimum—makes sense for both the buyer and the manufacturer.
Boutique Seating Projects: Beautiful but Costly at Low Volume
Take a look at our Boutique Seating collection.
Many of these models were built for specific architectural projects — beautifully crafted, but never mass-produced. Clients paid a premium for these one-of-a-kind pieces, which didn’t transition to our catalog due to limited demand.
When you order more, you save. Our custom commercial furniture becomes more affordable because labor and material costs are divided across multiple units.
Shipping: Bigger Orders, Better Value
Shipping is another key factor. Sending two custom sofas from New Jersey to California can be extremely costly. But when shipping a PTL vs LTL , $7,000+ order, your cost per piece drops dramatically — making your investment far more efficient.
